GET BETTER follows a week in the life of Ellie Alexander (Marisa Viola) and her chronically ill father, Roy (Robert Linder). Ellie’s established routine strikes a balance between the needs of her father, the demands of her boss, Jane Preston (Lise Anzelone), and the advances of her on-again, off-again romantic interest, Mike Smith (Chris White). This delicate balance gets disrupted however, with the arrival of her childhood friend, Pam Stuart (Monica Wyche) — a New York producer who comes to town to document Roy’s life and winds up exposing the wounds and resentments caused by Roy's disease.

GET BETTER was written by Chris White and Emily Reach White — who were inspired by Emily’s father’s decade-long struggle with chronic Lyme disease. The Whites directed their cast to improvise nearly every line of dialogue, and conceived of each character with the specific actor in mind. The film was produced with funds donated by friends, family, and fans during the late summer of 2011. Principal photography began on October 10, 2011 in New York City, and wrapped on November 8, 2011 in Tryon, North Carolina. Post-production began immediately, and was completed on June 15, 2012 in Greenville, South Carolina.

Most of GET BETTER was shot in and around the idyllic home of Robert and Mary Linder of Tryon, North Carolina. Other scenes were shot at Landrum High School, Furman University, and at Rhythm and Brews in Greer, South Carolina.
